The process of core aerification is to open the soil to allow for higher amounts of oxygen to enter the root zone and relieve compaction caused by watering. The opening promotes healthier roots, better water infiltration, drought tolerance, better fertilizer response, and reduced thatch.

At the time of aerification, Hoot’s Lawn Care applies gypsum to “cleanse” the soil. The gypsum bonds to the soil salts that are present and leaches them out of the soil profile. The gypsum also helps clay based soils to “open up” and allow for better fertilizer response.
